X-trafik in Sweden increases on-time performance by 5% with Swiftly

X-trafik, the transit agency serving Region Gävleborg, Sweden, set out to minimize early departures and increase on-time performance to improve overall system reliability and the passenger experience. Partnering with Swiftly, a transit data platform, helped the agency make measurable gains.

X-trafik at a Glance

  • Service area: Region Gävleborg, Sweden
  • Fleet size: 205 buses
  • Ridership: 14 million annual passenger trips

Goal: Minimize Early Departures and Increase On-Time Performance

X-trafik wanted a clearer, stop-by-stop view of performance so it could make more informed scheduling decisions. Using Swiftly’s Live Operations, GPS Playback, On-Time Performance, Speed Map, and Run-Times products, the agency achieved:

  • 5% average improvement in on-time performance (OTP) across adjusted routes
  • Overall OTP increased to 72%
  • 20% average reduction in early departures
  • Fewer than 4% of departures were early overall

Rickard Sjoqvist, Trafikutvecklare (Traffic Development Officer), shared:

“Before Swiftly, we had no way of analysing performance on a stop-by-stop basis—we’re now able to make more informed decisions and have better discussions about what will work best for our passengers.”

The Takeaway

By gaining stop-by-stop visibility into performance, X-trafik was able to move beyond guesswork and make targeted schedule adjustments—cutting early departures and lifting on-time performance in a way that translates directly into a more reliable experience for passengers.
